Wagku vs LivingCost.org: Cost of Living Data Compared

November 2, 2026 ยท 2 min read

LivingCost.org and wagku.com both answer "how much does it cost to live there?", but they are built for different readers.

The short version

LivingCost.org is a broad global ranking. Its Bangkok page, for example, shows a cost of living figure, a rank among 9,000+ cities, and a median after tax salary. It is useful for a quick cost ranking.

Wagku covers fewer places, only in Asia, and adds the things you need after you decide a city is affordable: whether you can legally stay, what you will owe in tax, and how fast the internet is.

Same city, different answer

Take Chiang Mai and Kuala Lumpur. On wagku, a one bedroom in the centre is about 422 USD a month in Chiang Mai and about 801 USD in Kuala Lumpur, and each figure links back to its source. The next question is what visa lets you stay. In Thailand the DTV allows long stays for remote workers, while Malaysia's DE Rantau pass asks for a minimum yearly income. A cost site alone cannot answer that.

When to use which

  • LivingCost.org: you want a quick global ranking, or you want to compare against local salaries.
  • wagku.com: you are moving or working remotely in Asia and need cost, visa and tax data together.

Start at the city list and sort by budget, or use compare for a side by side view.

LivingCost.org details come from its public pages at the time of writing and may change.
