What the table does not show
- Internet. Kathmandu and Da Lat both do well on speed, but Tbilisi is slower than the Southeast Asian cities here.
- Visa rules. Cheap rent means little if you have to leave every 30 days. Check the fee and income requirement on each city page.
- Tax. Many countries treat you as a resident after about 180 days. Residency rules differ on whether foreign income is taxed, so read the tax section before you settle in.
How to choose
- Set a monthly budget on the city list.
- Filter by your passport to see visa free and e-visa access.
- Put your top three on the compare page.
Figures are monthly averages from sourced listings and change over time. Each city page links to the sources.
